VitaNet, Inc. today announced that its AccuNotify™ platform delivered a 14.9% click-through rate (CTR), a 4.77 out of 5 user satisfaction score, and 100% operational uptime across 50 days of deployment at Naha Airport. AccuNotify™ functions as a micro-targeted advertising platform optimized for enterprise environments. The deployment was overseen by the Okinawa General Bureau of Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), with participation from VitaNet's Tokyo-based subsidiary, VitaNet Japan, Inc.
Why Airports Have Been Missing from the $140 Billion Retail Media Wave
Retail media has expanded into nearly every category of consumer commerce, growing to roughly $140 billion globally. Airports — despite hosting millions of high-intent, high-dwell consumers daily — have largely sat outside that wave.
Travelers spend an average of 160 to 180 minutes inside major terminals, and approximately 89% use smartphones during that dwell time, yet most walk past stores, gates, restaurants, and displays with their attention on their devices, leaving airport operators, retailers, brands, and tourism organizations with limited ability to connect physical movement with digital action.
The commercial stakes are substantial. At Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), where non-aeronautical revenue reaches approximately $524 million annually, even a 1% improvement in passenger purchase engagement represents roughly $5.3 million in incremental annual revenue.
AccuNotify™ addresses this gap by enabling context-aware mobile notifications when a traveler approaches a specific zone, store, gate, or product display. By delivering engagement to the phone the traveler is already holding, AccuNotify™ helps convert physical attention into immediate digital action — reducing the friction that has historically separated out-of-home advertising from measurable retail media.
This opens a participation path that retail media has not previously had into the airport environment. Crucially for North American operators, AccuNotify™ relies on a zero-construction and zero-friction deployment model, requiring no complex physical installation while eliminating the need for travelers to download new apps, register accounts, or scan QR codes.
Validated Deployment Results
The MLIT Okinawa General Bureau-backed rollout deployed AccuNotify™ across check-in, security, and duty-free zones at Naha Airport. The project confirmed the following metrics:
How AccuNotify™ Works
AccuNotify™ operates through VitaNet Station, a cloud-managed Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) device that dynamically switches between a secure beacon mode and a two-way BLE communication mode. This proprietary control method enables delivery range settings as fine as approximately 2 ft. (60 cm), allowing brands and operators to engage consumers when they stand before a specific store, gate, facility zone, or product display.
Notifications are served on demand from VitaNet's cloud platform, supporting real-time campaign management and reporting comparable to standard digital advertising operations. The platform is designed for indoor and zone-level proximity engagement where GPS is not sufficiently precise or reliable.
A Unified Retail Media Network Beyond Airports
In the same MLIT program, VitaNet's BLE stations were also deployed at Yui Rail monorail station areas connecting Naha Airport to central Naha, including Prefectural Office, Shuri, and Tedako-Uranishi, as well as in vehicle and Campus MaaS pilot scenarios at a regional university. The results across these surfaces indicate that AccuNotify™ can extend beyond airports to support a broader flow-based digital infrastructure across transit, tourism, and commerce.
This successfully unifies disparate out-of-home environments into a cohesive, highly measurable retail media network. The platform can provide an API-accessible data and engagement layer for reaching mobile travelers along their journey, with potential extension to regional digital currencies, e-commerce, public service information, and local consumption programs.
Naha Airport showed that the model can work at scale, and the same proximity-triggered engagement layer can extend to rail, vehicles, retail, tourism, and other places where attention and intent intersect.
Availability and Next Steps
VitaNet is now in conversation with airport operators, transit authorities, retail media networks, brands, and tourism agencies interested in evaluating AccuNotify™ in North American and other international markets. The platform is offered with SDK integration for partner mobile applications, a cloud-managed campaign platform, and API-level data integration with tourism, MaaS, and retail systems.
